Black Legion: Plant employee Bogart, disheartened after losing a promotion to a colleague identified "Dombrowski," gets to be engaged with a Ku Klux Klan type group. Commanding, still-pertinent drama, compactly informed. Cast includes Humphrey Bogart, Erin O'Brien-Moore, Dick Foran, Ann Sheridan, Joe Sauers (Sawyer), Helen Flint, Dickie Jones, and Henry Brandon. (83 minutes, 1936)

The Source: Pop-fashion documentary on the Beat movement, drawing on archival footage of Jack Kerouac plus crisp material on William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg. Spectators-amiable instead of scholarly, this vigorous film serves as a phenomenal primer on this seminal movement in American lifestyle. Key poems by Kerouac, Burroughs, and Ginsberg are worked on-camcorder by a well-selected Johnny Depp, Dennis Basket, and John Turturro, respectively. (88 minutes, 1999)

Me Of Honor: This movie tells the true story of the first Black American Naval Master Diver. At first his worst nightmare, Master Chief Billy Sunday becomes his biggest ally in his fight to complete the course. In his struggle he overcomes and terrible injury, racism, and tons of other problems as he takes on impossible odds.

Chocolat: Vianne, along with her young daughter, moves to a small village in southern France, and opens a chocolate shop. When she keeps her shop open on Sundays, the very religious town is up in arms. Eventually the spirit of the mother/daughter team wins over the town, and opens the minds of the conservative and religious people.

Seven: Two detectives are in a desperate race to stop a serial killer. He is carrying out his killings, cryptically referencing one of the seven deadly sins in each killing. Things take an unexpected twist when the killer gives himself up, one sin short of completing his work. The stage is now set for the final act of the plan of this sick mastermind.

The Gorgon: In 19th-century Balkan village, one of the snake-headed Gorgons still subsists, turning her sufferers to rock-hut who is she by night? Cast includes Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Richard Pasco, Barbara Shelley, and Michael Goodwin. (83 minutes, 1964)

The Prince and the Showgirl: Considerate although dull-moving comedy of saucy American show gal Monroe being courted by Prince Regent of Carpathia Olivier throughout the 1911 coronation of George V. Filmed in England, with admirable behaviors by Monroe and Olivier. Cast includes Laurence Olivier, Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spencer, and Richard Wattis. (117 minutes, 1957)

Dick Tracy: Big Boy Caprice and his mob are wreaking havoc on the streets of Chicago. Add to that, a loyal girlfriend, an orphan needing his help, being seduced by the sultry Breathless Mahoney, and a new threat in town know as the Blank, and you can see that Dick Tracy is a very busy man. It will take all his powers to save the city.

Ivanhoe: Virtually a classic phenomenon harmed by dodgy inscribing of Walter Scott's fable of England in Middle Ages, in nights of chivalrous horsemen; beautifully photographed on location in Incredible Britain. Cast includes Robert Taylor, Joan Fontaine, Elizabeth Taylor, Evelyn Williams, George Sanders, Norman Wooland, and Basil Sydney. (106 minutes, 1952)
