Who Are The Greatest Actors

By Brenda Wright

We all have our favorite actors and our favorite movies. It is merely an opinion and nobody is more right or more wrong we just all know what we like. But there are actors that we watch who are extremely talented and there are others that are pretty boys and then there are the few that fit into both categories. There are also actors who along with being great entertainers they are also great men who use their fame and notoriety to help the the human race.

It's pretty remarkable to think that Tom Hanks started out on a small and kooky TV show called "Bosom Buddies". Who would have thought that he would boast the talent to pull off such great roles as Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer who is infected with AIDS, who is fired from his conservative law firm because of the fear that they may also contract the disease. He won his first Academy Award for that role in 1993 and it was well deserved.

His second Academy Award came just the next year making him only the second actor in history to win back-to-back Oscars with Spencer Tracy being the first back in 1937 and 1938. In 1994 Tom Hanks again took home the Oscar for his moving portrayal of Forrest Gump. He also has a list of other good movies but it is too time-consuming to cover here.

Brad Pitt has been adored for his good looks ever since he charmed us in the 1991 film "Thelma and Louise". However he hasn't always played the pretty boy roles. Remember "Seven" and "Twelve Monkeys" both from 1995? Sometimes his personal life seems to eclipse his acting roles but the most impressive thing about Brad Pitt is that he has been extremely active in humanitarian causes throughout the world and he has donated hefty sums of his cash to these causes.

After Hurricane Katrina basically wiped out New Orleans, Brad Pitt started the "Make It Right Foundation" to assist in the redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The foundation builds homes that are affordable, sustainable and true to the diverse culture of New Orleans. The goal was to achieve the building of the homes quickly so that the residents could return home as soon as possible. That has been his true accomplishment.

There is another great actor who is greatly admired for his philanthropy. Paul Newman passed away this past September 26, 2008 but he will long be remembered for great movies like "Road to Perdition" from 2002, "The Color of Money" from 1986 and "Absence of Malice" from 1981. He also played Butch in the well known and ever beloved "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" from the year 1969. And then of course, the list of great Paul Newman movies goes on and on.

But like Brad Pitt, Paul Newman was also known for his philanthropy. In 1982 with a colleague he created a line of food products called "Newman's Own". It started with salad dressing and ever since then it has expanded to include pasta sauce, lemonade, popcorn, salsa, cookies and other items. Newman established a policy that all of the proceeds from Newman's Own, after taxes, would be donated to charity. As of early 2006, the corporation had donated in excess of $250 million.

We will forever have our favorite movies and our favorite actors and actresses. We may like them because of their talent or for other reasons but now that we can download full-length, high quality movies immediately on the Internet at least we won't have to miss any of their movies. - 18780
