Michael Jackson Books Give Bookstores A Welcome Boost

By Jenna Landers

In life, there were a plethora of books dedicated to the life, times and career of Michael Jackson. In death, we can expect the number of Michael Jackson books to explode; whether these are studies of his music, reflections on the enigma of his dancing, or more spurious efforts into his private activities.

In the UK this week, publisher Harper Collins stole a march on their competitors, as their biographical tribute; "Michael Jackson - Legend, Hero, Icon", went to print. A study into the man behind Thriller, the fully illustrated hardback is set to hit stores across the country on Friday July 17.

Subtitled, "A tribute to the King of Pop", it is clear this book is aimed at the millions of heartbroken fans that continue to struggle with the paradoxical entertainer's death. That thousands of fans are presently holding a vigil at the O2 arena in London, starting the day of his scheduled comeback "This Is It" tour is indicative of the market Harper Collins hope to tap into.

Whilst Harper Collins pulled out all the stops to get the book to print, (hiring a freelance author to write 10, 000 words of new material in just 48 hours), it is not the first of new Michael Jackson books made available.

"Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson", written by Ian Halperin was scheduled to go to print on July 30, (again to take advantage of the late singer's comeback tour). A so called "tell all" expos, this clearly aims to satisfy the thirst of less respectful readers.

The delay also allowed author, Ian Halperin, the opportunity to rewrite the final chapter of course.

The first completely new book since his untimely death is most likely to be found in China. Appearing in stores from Saturday July 7, two writers worked tirelessly over a 48 hour period to deliver the copy.

That one of these writers, Jiang Xiaoyu, remains an ardent fan of the star, the book, "Moonwalk in Paradise", is clearly a salute to the brilliance he shone onto the world. However, the authors admit that mistakes may have been made in validity of content; relying very much on personal thoughts, supported by internet based research.

At a time when all businesses are struggling, this sudden, unexpected rush for Michael Jackson books will please publishers, bookstore owners and authors alike. Even in death, Michael Jackson turns a pretty penny for numerous third parties. - 18780
