Taylor Swift's Love Story - A Music Review Creates an Anthem For Young Love With Love Story
Taylor Swift, despite her young age, has proven herself in the music scene as a talented singer/songwriter. In such a short span of time, she was able to gain the respect and praise not only of her fans but by her peers in the music industry as well. As a matter of fact, she managed to bag the Album of the Year award at the most recent Academy of Country Music Awards.
When she broke out in the music scene, Taylor Swift immediately showed great potential to be a certified hit maker. Due also to the fact that she writes her songs and she plays the guitar well, she was able to sell herself a true-blue country music artist. This she proved once again when she made a big hit out of the first single of her second album Love Story.
Love Story is the carrier single of her Fearless album. This song is about a forbidden love between two young people. It refers to the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. In the song, the girl, which is obviously Taylor, is troubled because of the hindrances to her love for Romeo. Daddy doesn't approve of Romeo and wants him to stay away from Juliet. She sings about wanting to go somewhere they can both be alone.
She tells the story of how young they were when they saw each other. And that at a young age she would fall in love with Romeo who made his way through the crowd just to say hello. Because daddy wants Romeo to stay away from Juliet, she sneaks out to the garden for a rendezvous with her man and begs him not to go away.
The forbidden love was too much to bear for Juliet because people were telling her how she should feel. But despite all that, she remains hopeful and faithful to their love for each other. But as every deep feelings are meant to end up, Juliet started to lose faith in the love because she got tired of waiting for Romeo.
The allusion to the classic Shakespearian play was a wise choice for the singer/songwriter. It gave the words to her song something tangible for the audience. While there is nothing wrong about singing about your love story, it would be nice to have something that your audience will be able to relate to. Obviously, the targeted audience here is young girls-girls who may not have experienced the kind of love the story is conveyed in the song. By using the characters of Romeo and Juliet as references, the audience will be able to relate better.
But whether the audience relates to the message of the song or not, the song's impact is undeniable. Fans love it. This is one of the cases where depth of lyrics doesn't really matter much. It's all about the music as a whole.
Taylor Swift has written a very nice song, accompanied it with great, catchy music, and sang it with the gusto of a young girl who is in love. Nothing can be better than that. - 18780
