In this nation there are copyright laws that let the creators of the work to be paid for it. Most films are copyrighted unless they were originally appropriated to the public domain. Very few movies are old enough to have reverted back to the public domain and the only movies that would be obtainable on the public domain are the films that did not get the essential renewal on their copyright.

That means that the substantial mass of the up to date films or even most of the excellent movies from the past 40 years are most probable still under copyright. When you download a bootleg duplicate from the Internet you are violating copyright law. You could even be risking prosecution.

Any movie that was created after January 1, 1978 is consequentially protected by copyright commencing at creation for the term of the author's life, plus an extra 70 years past the author's death. In the case of an unidentified work the copyright is in effect for 95 years from first publication or 120 years from creation, whichever is shorter. Whichever way, to all intents and purposes every movie that you may want to download is protected by copyright.

Downloading free of charge illegally copied films is breaking the law. If that is not enough of a prevention to stop you, you are also risking computer tribulations such as viruses and adware and the quality of the movie is not even assured.
