Check out vintage Hollywood, filled with marvelous detail and astounding scenes; informed in Joel and Ethan Coen's usually flamboyant graphic fashion. However, at a vital point the film takes an acute left turn toward the weird, and on no account returns. Cast includes John Turturro, John Goodman, Judy Davis, Michael Lemer, John Mahoney, Tony Shalhoub, David W arrilow, and Christopher Mumey. (117 minutes, 1991)
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil: Fanciful story of New Jersey babies Prager and Doran who conceal out in NYC's Metropolitan Museum, building a fantasy planet and befriending recluse Bergman, seen too concisely. Blanche Hanalis adjusted E. L. Konigsburg's novel. Cast includes Ingrid Bergman, Sally Prager, Johnny Doran, George Rose, and Madeline Kahn. (105 minutes, 1973)
Trading Mom: It's about three siblings who couldn't stand their mom. Spacek cast a spell which makes her-and all memory of her vanish. Here is a flat and inanimate story with meager production values. Cast includes Sissy Spacek, Anna Chlumsky, Aaron Michael Metchik, Asher Metchik, Maureen Stapleton, and Merritt Yohnka. Airport Seventy Seven: All the stereotypes and stock characters are trucked out for a different made-to-request catastrophe myth, not poor as these objects go: Stewart's secluded luxury plane is undermined and sinks in the sea, pushing challenging save try. The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter: Heart-rending tirade of a deaf mute's desolate planet, and how he helps a teen gal battling to find herself. Authentic adaptation of Carson McCullers' novel, set in the Large South, aids from moving behaviors-containing Arkin, Locke whose debut film this was, and joke performer McCann, in a revelatory change-of-pace part as Arkin's siI11ple-minded mute buddy. Cast includes Alan Arkin, Sondra Locke, Laurinda Barrett, Stacy Keach, Jr., Ditch McCann, Biff McGuire, Percy Rodriguez, Cicely Tyson, and Jackie Marlowe. (125 minutes, 1968)
