Comparing the Xbox 360 to All those Other Consoles

By Larry Moon

Not too long ago, the console wars were really fierce when Microsoft unveiled their first gaming console known as the Xbox to the public to put a dent on Sony's success with the Playstation 2. Nintendo was also causing a stir with its GameCube console which sold a reasonable amount to all ages. But Microsoft had some plans of their own by developing and launching its successor which is the Xbox 360 and now stood as the most powerful gaming console to date.

The Xbox 360 gained all the attention for a year until Sony and Nintendo answered with their own seventh generation consoles which are the Playstation 3 and Wii respectively. This was the time when the console wars really heated up and now gamers are spending more time deciding which console deserves their money savings. It is a tough battle because each console pretty much has their own unique strengths. Here is how the Xbox 360 weights in against the other two consoles.

Comparing the Xbox 360 with Nintendo's Wii console is like comparing apples and oranges. The Xbox 360 clearly surpasses the Wii in terms of graphics simply because the Wii doesn't concentrate in that area. But with the Wii having some similar gaming titles as the Xbox 360, the real judging goes down to the controls.

Everything that revolves around the Nintendo Wii deals with the motion sensors. Companies have been trying to perfect this for years, but could never reach the heights that Wii has come to enjoy. Granted, you may not think about it, but the 360 has both wired and wireless controllers. You will find this extremely important when you play first person shooter games like Call of Duty or other exclusive games.

Probably one of the biggest differences is the high rated titles available on the Xbox 360. Most of these are geared towards the 20s to 30s crowd, while the Wii keeps their games set for the entire family. Seriously, how many moms and grandparents do you know who are going to enjoy Gears of War 1 and 2? Regardless, the Xbox 360 wins the battle in the quality of game's department.

The PS3, on the other hand is the Xbox 360's closer competitor. Both systems are beefed with some impressive system specifications that are responsible for the great graphics that these consoles produce on their connected screens. The PS3 gains an edge over the Xbox 360 with its Blu-ray support, but the Xbox 360 continues to impress with wonderful visuals that are comparable to PC games that have high-end video cards. While many gamers love to debate which console yields out better graphics, it is easy to conclude that the games look alike at a glance.

The best gaming console is hard to find out at the time because each console represents something unique in its own class. However looking overall the Xbox 360 might have the edge in the market right because of the amount of titles that it has. The Playstation 3 has more exclusive franchises, but the Xbox 360 has more games. Being that the Xbox has more titles with a higher rating it is safe to say as of right now that they are the leader in the gaming market.

But no console is very far behind this time. Still, the Xbox 360 still impresses in terms of both software and hardware features. It won't eliminate the console wars any time soon, but the Xbox 360 is still a powerful system where you can play loads of great games. - 18780
