Like Water for Chocolate - Striking and sumptuous film from a book by Laura Esquivel set in the early part of the 20th century - a youthful female's life is conditioned by her solemn and steadfast mother, who treats her terribly. Sumptuous tale, not without humor, with an exceptional cast and a top of the line performance from lead actress Cavazos. Believe in Me - Donovan moves to a small Oklahoma town in 1964 to take a teaching job, although when he arrives he finds out he's been assigned to coach the girls basketball team. Donovan and Mathis as his loyal wife are first rate. Cast includes Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dem, Bob Gunton, Heather Matarazzo, Alicia Lagano, and Chris Ellis. (108 minutes, 2007)

Say It Isn't So - Agreeably un-ambitious Klein falls for the new hairdresser in town Graham. They have consensual sex and then Klein finds out that Graham is his sister. It is a unreserved flop. Cast includes Heather Graham, Chris Klein, Orlando Jones, Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, John Rothman, Brent Briscoe, and Sarah Silverman. (96 minutes, 1988)
