By Dwayne Malone

The aim of every Hollywood producer is to put out a motion picture that is a gigantic hit. The combination of a great plot with first-rate stars and special effects seems to be the recipe for a runaway success. Still, it doesn't always work and sometimes even when a film has all of the components that by all accounts make a success, it still fails at the box office. There is no certain process for a Hollywood triumph.

The Net - Angela Bennett is a computer geek. She gets a program, and is asked to de-bug it. Shortly after receiving the program, the man who sent it to her is killed. What's on the disc is of crucial significance to someone. They know she has it, and she is now running for her life as she attempts to figure out just who is after her, and why.

Good to Go - Undistinguished fare in reference to correspondent Garfunkel, who's framed on a rape-slaughter charge. Cast includes Art Garfunkel, Robert Doqui, Harris Yulin, Reginald Daughtry, Richard Brooks, Hattie Winston, and Anjelica Huston. (87 minutes, 1986)

They Were Expendable - One of the best and most underrated of all WW2 films, based on the actual story of America's PT boat battalion in the Philippines throughout the early nights of the battle. Moving, exquisitely detailed production photographed by Joseph August under Ford's unique hand, with real-life Naval Officer Montgomery. Cast includes Robert Montgomery, John Wayne, Donna Reed, Jack Holt, Ward Bond, Leon Ames, Jack Pennick, and Tom Tyler. (135 minutes, 1945)

Kimberley Jim - Little musical of 2 carefree gamblers who win a fortune in a fixed poker game, and then have a change of heart. Cast includes Jim Reeves, Madeleine Guide, Clive Pamell, Arthur Swemmer, and Mike Holt. (82 minutes, 1965)

Scandalous - Featherbrained deception in regards to investigative Television journalist who runs afoul of a team of con artists as he tries to remove himself from a homicide charge. Cast includes Robert Hays, John Giegud, Pamela Stephenson, and Jim Dale. (94 minutes, 1984)
