When learning how to play guitar, getting an instructor would significantly help in speeding up your learning pace. Having a mentor does not always have to mean hiring a professional for weekly lessons. You may ask a friend who is proficient in playing the guitar for simple tips on how to improve your playing. On the other hand, it is still highly advisable to have a professional guitar coach when it comes to learning the lessons efficiently.

Learning the guitar is an easy thing to do but if you want to be very effective at it you must practice a lot and be involved with some group. Learning alone can be good but you will never know if you are making mistakes if you don't listen or talk to other guitar players.
