Cranston is both inscrutable and boring. Incredible production layout and wonderful outcomes get lost in a film that keeps the viewer at Ann's magnitude all the way through. What a waste of an awesome supporting cast! Cast includes Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen, Tim Curry, Jonathan Winters, and Sab Shimono. (105 minutes, 1994)
Lillian Russell: This is a strained bio of the early 2Oth-century megastar. Lavish surroundings and weak plotline decrease Faye's work. Arnold replicates his Diamond Jim Brady role with zest. Cast includes Alice Faye, Don Ameche, Henry Fonda, Edward Arnold, Warren William, Leo Carrillo, and Nigel Bruce. (127 minutes, 1940)
Law of Desire: Surreal, hedonistic, and comical comedy concentrating on a gay love triangle, with equal treatments of desire, sex, fantasy, and disaster. Cast includes Eusebio Poncela, Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas, Miguel Molina, Bibi Andersson, Manuela Velasco, and Nacho Martinez. (100 minutes, 1987)
Good Times: Back while the harmonizing twosome was still considered wacky, they made this entertaining little film, with Sonny day dreaming about their potential film roles and he and Cher harmonizing "I Got You Hottie." PCV: Partisan correctness is out of sorts at Port Chester University which leads to the unavoidable conflict between a cadre of excessively militant scholar groups and a college girl group who revel in their political incorrectness. Cry the Beloved Country: Moving redo of the 1951 film based on Alan Paton's rejoiced novel, in reference to a backwoods pastor (Jones) who, in 1946, makes his first ever trip to the city of Johannesburg in search of his errant child. At the same time prosperous landowner Harris voyages there to claim the body of his child, who has just been killed. We see phenomenal work by Jones, Harris, and a largely foreign cast. Not as understated as the first making, however powerful in its own way. Cast includes Richard Harris, James Earl Jones, Charles S. Dutton, and Vusi Kunene. (120 minutes, 1995)
Sudden Fear: A new twist about a boy who cried wolf too often. A prankish kid witnesses the murder of a visiting dignitary. The problem is that no one will believe him. Cast includes Lionel Jeffues, Susan George, Tony Bonner, and Jeremy Kemp. (95 minutes, 1970)
Rocky 4: Entirely synthetic (and unessential) continuation has Rocky doin' what a guy's gotta do, avenging a buddy's downfall and fighting for the U.S.A. against a superhuman Russian champ. Still, Stallone knows how to press all the right buttons, particularly in an awesome teaching montage. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burt Youthful, Brigitte Nielsen, Michael Pataki, and James Brown. (91 minutes, 1985)
