Learning Basic Guitar Chords Chart

By francois arcoix

Once the basic guitar chords are mastered - it only takes 10 to 15 - you will be able to play many of your favorite songs. The chords are what the background of most songs consist of and are what provide the accompaniment for other instruments. What is a chord? This is when three or more musical notes are played together.

Three strings being strummed on a guitar if your chord consists of three notes is the way to play the chord. The guitar can only play a chord consisting of six notes because the guitar has only six strings. The chords consist of three groups - Major, Minor and Seventh. The three have their own sound. The major chords are consistent, the minor chords are almost sad and the seventh chords are jazzy.

Most people cannot agree on a standard number of chords but the feeling is there anyone who wants to learn to play guitar should know from 8 to 18. The ones typically used in all types of music from rock to classical are among these. When learning these chords you increase the number of songs you can play and it is much more enjoyable.

So what are the basic chords we are talking about? They are the minor and major chords of A, D,E, and the major chords of G and C. The chords are made by not pressing some of the strings in the chord out. In other words do not press that string(s) down with your finger when you fret. Fret means to hold the strings on the neck of the guitar with the fingers on one hand while the other hand strums. Leaving one or more strings out while pressing on the others is called an open chord.

Open chords are much easier to learn for the beginner. The basic chords are A Major, A Minor, C Major, D Major, D Minor, E Major, E Minor, F Major and G Major. By using a basic guitar chords chart you can see each chord and where your fingers go to make that chord. This is the way many people taught themselves to play the guitar.

One of the most used methods of teaching the chords is by families. The family is mixed to play chords that are the basis of many songs that people play today. By learning the chords in this manner the learning is more fun and each one is learned in a sequence. This makes it easier to remember them as they are learned. Learning the families will allow you to learn and play music for yourself faster.

Songs based on three chords are quite popular thus they are plentiful. Trying to learn too many is not going to be conducive to learning to play the guitar. With over thousands chords in some learning systems, you will be confused and more apt to give up the guitar. This is too many for a beginner or someone who knows how to play. The chords you learn when playing guitar as a beginner are the ones you can learn the easiest so that you can play songs in no time.

There is no need to learn all of these chords (which would take a long time) when you can be having a great time playing in just a matter of a few days. When using the basic guitar chords chart you will have the information right in front of you so seeing where your fingers need to go to produce the beautiful music you like is just a few days away. - 18780

History of Portable Audio Players

By Sampson Zelder

Portable audio players are mobile devices able to play digital music. There are several varieties of portable audio player that include MP3 players, cell phones, boomboxes and mini-disk players. Technically a digital voice recorder might fall into the portable audio category as well, but its a term generally considered for musical accessories.

These days younger people tend to take portable audio players for granted, but theyre a relatively recent addition. Not so long ago portable music for previous generations used to exist only in the form of AM/FM radio. Back in the early 1970s 8-track cassettes were all the rage. They looked a little like VHS video tapes, but back then they were considered to be a huge step for portable music. These days we can look back and realize that the technology was basic at best. When songs ended the cassette had to shift to the next track, which left several seconds of silence between the seams that were usually accompanied by the clunking of the internal mechanisms shifting.

During the 1980s the 8-track had morphed into the cassette tape. These were smaller and had far more capacity to hold more songs. These became the first real form of portable audio. While boomboxes were manufactured with inbuilt cassette players through the late 1980s and 1990s, by the mid-1980a the first forms of walkman player emerged. These allowed people to play one cassette at a time in a rather bulky, but portable player and listen through headphone-speakers.

By 1988 compact discs had arrived on the market. These digital discs meant that music lovers no longer had to spend time rewinding or fast forwarding unwieldy cassette tapes to find the track they wanted to listen to. Compact discs also didnt have the problems of the tape breaking or wearing out or coming off the spools. They were also much smaller than the unwieldy, fragile vinyl records.

The only real drawback to the compact disc was the fact that sporting enthusiasts couldnt enjoy portable music with the CD walkman as the laser light reading device was easily jolted, causing the music tracks to skip or jitter. For people wanting to jog or cycle or skate, then the cassette player, like the walkman, remained the portable audio device of choice.

During the 1990s, advances in computer technology and the accompanying storage devices saw the advent of the MP3 music file. People began listening to digital files directly through their computers.

As MP3 files grew in popularity and flash memory sticks became more common, the first portable MP3 players were created as a direct result. With some MP3 players as small as a pack of gum, people were now able to listen to portable audio files from gadgets that fit within their pockets. They no longer needed to change the CD or the cassette after every album, but were able to store multiple songs on a tiny flash memory drive that also didnt have the problems of breaking or jolting during activity. In order to add or remove music files from the MP3 player, a person only needed to transfer files from a computer to the portable MP3 player, which has the memory capacity to store an entire music library. Now thats convenience! - 18780

The Best XBOX 360 Bundle To Go With

By David Johnson

Those who are just heading out to buy their first Xbox 360 will have a number of choices available to them. The game console usually comes with a number of other items that will add to your experience when you are playing. The bundles typically include a collection of games.

The first thing that you should consider when you are trying to find the best Xbox 360 bundle is to determine who in your family is likely to be playing the game the most. If it is for a child in your home, choose the bundle that has games that they are likely to enjoy.

On the other hand if that individual is you, then the bundle or package should appeal to you. There are many different bundles to chose from and when you find what you like get it. Every game is different and some may not be to your liking. Keep looking. You'll find what you will enjoy playing.

There are a large number of XBOX packages available, so take your time looking and find one that you'll like for as little money as possible. There are lots of amazing deals available online. Online auctions sell XBOX 360s in great cheap bundles all the time.

Do some comparison shopping when you are looking for the best Xbox 360 bundle. Try to find one that includes some of those hot games that everyone wants to get their hands on. Those bundles are the most valuable and will be giving you the best deal.

The cost of Xbox 360 games is higher at retail and individually then they are when bought in a bundle. The more you can get in a bundle the less expensive each game will be and of course the more games you can purchase and the more fun you will have.

In some cases you might find that the inclusion of games that you don't want and the extra cost that the games add to the cost of the total package might make it an unattractive offer. Consider what it would cost you to buy the console on its own and pick up the games that you want. You might find that you will be getting a better deal when you put your own bundle together.

The bottom line on Xbox 360 bundles is that the best one that is out there for you is the one that includes everything that you will enjoy in your Xbox 360 game playing. - 18780

Festival Celebrates Islay's Malt Whisky Heritage

By Rachel Wilson

The last weekend in May sees the small Island of Islay in celebration mood. The Islay Festival of Malt and Music brings crowds of whisky enthusiasts to mingle with fans of Gaelic music and culture. Islay's eight working distilleries produce some of the world's most famous whiskies as well as being one of Islay's most important industries.

The festival programme includes a variety of cultural and musical events including Highland dancing, the Islay Pipe Band, guided walks, sporting events and children's amusements. However I don't think anyone would argue that Islay's whisky will take pride of place. The malt whisky enthusiast will be able to visit each of the distilleries on their open days. On offer will be distillery tours, master classes and whisky tastings. Refreshments and food tastings featuring local produce and ingredients will be available at many of the events.

For those interested in Gaelic Culture an Evening of Gaelic Song and Traditional Music at the Gaelic College Bowmore on the evening of 27th May is a must. Local artists, including the Islay Gaelic Choir, will be performing. There will be refreshments and a raffle.

A whisky tasting Ceilidh on the evening of the 25th May will challenge the real whisky buffs who can tell Ardbeg from Bowmore or Bruichladdich. All the distilleries will be there with their whisky so go along and test your whisky tasting skills. Musical accompaniment will be by The Islay Fiddle and Accordion Band.

The peaty soil and brown peaty water, together with the exposed position of Islay have combined to create the unique characteristics of the island's whisky. The island is almost completely covered in peat, soaked through with the salty sea spray brought far inland by winter gales. In balmier summer weather the gentler salty, seaweed scented breeze dries it out. The result is some of the strongest flavoured of all the malt whiskies.

The distilleries in the south of the island include Ardbeg and Laphroaig. These produce some of the most powerful of Islay's whiskies. The brown, peaty water is used together with a heavily peated malt in the distilling process. The whisky has a flavour that has been described as peat smoke, brine and iodine. Sometimes even "medicinal".

The Northern Islay Distilleries, including Bruichladdich, produce a much milder whisky. They use the spring water before it comes into contact with the peat and only lightly peated malt. This results in a much lighter whisky with mossy rather than peaty flavours, with the same dry finish but with less of the flavour of the sea about them.

On the shores of Loch Indaal, in the middle of the Island, lies Bowmore distillery. In character it is somewhere in between the whiskies of the north and those of the south. While peaty flavours are very much in evidence it is not medicinal. The sea, salt, seaweed and iodine can be still be detected but the more delicate floral notes are able to come through and the whisky has a peppery finish.

Visit Islay, the Queen of the Hebrides, this spring and enjoy all that the Festival of Malt and Music has to offer as well as the stunning scenery and amazing wildlife. Treat yourself to a taste of island life. - 18780

Online Violin Lessons: True Mastery Is Possible Even At Home

By Elaine Cane

The internet has become extremely popular as an avenue to obtain knowledge and skillset training. It affords the individual who has access to it with a chance to study just about anything imaginable. It is a preferred educational mechanism because of the flexibility that it provides to the potential student. Online courses are available for many subjects and have obtained credibility as mainstream education providers. Some online training courses give the student a full-scale curriculum that prepares them to take licensing exams in many areas of study. These online training systems offer quite a variety of training choices, including courses in learning to play a musical instrument. One of the more popular music courses being offered over the internet are online violin lessons, and a surprising number of people are actually signing up.

Online violin lessons are chosen because they provide the following benefits:

Sheer Convenience

Being solely based on the internet, a student need never leave the home at all to take their violin lessons. This means never having to drive to the learning center or school or even to the local neighborhood musical teacher who teaches from her home. This also provides home-bound homemakers with a viable opportunity for self-improvement even while at home attending to the needs of the family. Even those with an eight-hour office job get to partake of the online courses, since they will not need to rush to another venue to take their violin lessons.

Learn The Violin Away From the Prying Eyes of Strangers

Being at home means you never have to worry about prying eyes or critical stares from others who make a habit of staring down people who do not meet their personal pre-set expectations of how fast a learner needs to master certain aspects of the course. Online violin lessons practically frees you from peer pressure and all the stresses that go with having to deal with other learners and maybe even instructors in the course of fulfilling your lessons.

Your Own Pace

Being that this is online training, how fast you go is your decision alone. You will not be goaded into keeping any pre-defined pace which will allow you to master each violin lesson to your individual satisfaction. Spend as much time on each lesson as you need or want. This one aspect of taking an online course makes it a favorite option for many potential violin students.

Coherent and Complete Lesson Plans

You can rest assured that taking online lessons will provide you with a full-scale course in learning how to play the violin. The methods and techniques provided in online violin training rivals any course that you can take in any physical classroom training. The lessons are developed and organized to provide an enjoyable, yet challenging, course that provides the opportunity to truly master the violin. - 18780
