Joining A Band

By Danny Reade

Joining a band could be really a challenge for each musician or group of musicians that are planning to have a band. I am currently part of a jazz quartet named "jazzology" and the way I made this band was talking with some friend that often we have been practicing and rehearsing since several months ago.

I personally recommend that the best way you can start joining a band is firstly determining the kind of music you are able to do. If you don't have a clear vision of the type of music you are going to do it will be really difficult join a band.

Joining a band is something that requires of a leader who can have a clear vision of the past, the present (the things we currently have and the resources we have) and a vision of the future. This is basically the first thing you need before start calling people to be member of a band.

The second thing you need to start joining a band is looking for people that have passion for the music in the genre you want to make music. You should also determine if you are going to have commercial purpose or you just want joining a band for enjoy the music or only for practice your art and express what you are and the things you want.

I personally think that if you are planning that music is going to be your career, not your hobby, you are going to require a good advisory so that you band can last for a long time.

If you want to know more about this you only have to read about the story of those remarkable bands that are today legends as The Beatles and other important bands that are currently active in our days. - 18780

A Buyers Guide to Buying Their Next Axe

By Kyle Zoltowski

Live Rock gigs were the rage in the 60's and they pushed innumerable kids to buy their very 1st guitars. Now, video games like Guitar Hero World Tour are having the same effect.

The heart of all classic rock music does not just lie with the lyrics; it also lies with the electric guitar and the various sounds that it can produce. There are so many kids across the block who would give anything to play like Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai, Jimmy Page etc. These men are not just some of the best guitarists of their times, they are legends.

If you are interested in learning how to play the guitar then the first thing you will need to do is select one. Most people start with an acoustic and graduate to the electric. It is sometimes quite overwhelming for anyone to choose the right electric guitar right off the bat since there are literally 1000's of models out there on the market. If you're purchasing an electric guitar then you will also need to pick up an amplifier, pick-ups, picks, a tuner etc.

Electric guitars can be bought in a vast array of shapes and designs with the aerodynamic designs being some of the most popular. Do not purchase the 1st electric guitar you see. You need to spend a fair amount of time looking around and check out the prices and models before you buy one. In fact, one of the coolest ways to pick a guitar is by the brand or by the style. Here is my take on the 4 basic styles:

Stratocaster (Also known as the 'Strat') - This certainly is a show stealer and has a typical style. The most famous is the red and white color combination, which was used prolifically by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. The Strato is from Fender and has a neck that is sturdily bolted to the guitar's body. Aside from this, it has dual cut away sides, 22 frets accompanied by a wammy bar and three single-coil pickups. Fender designed the first Stratocaster in the early 50's. A few of the popular designs are:

* Fender Deluxe Strat: Approx $600 * American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS: Approx $1200 * Fender Standard Stratocaster Electric: Approx $300 * Fender Standard Strat Electric Guitar in Rosewood: Approx $550 * Stratocaster Eric Johnson Signature model: Approx $1700

Telecaster (Better known as a 'Tele') - The Telecaster is another great instrument from Fenders. It is more than just another electric guitar; it is a complete band. It is a solid body electric and comprises of two pick-ups. The first Telecaster was constructed by Leo Fender in the 40's and has a mono cutaway body. It doesn't have the wammy bar but has 2 different single-coil pickups. Some of the popular Telecaster models include:

* American Tele HS guitar: $950-$1000 * Fender Standard Telecaster Electric: $300-$500 * 63 Tele Relic Solid Body: $2650-$3150 * Fender 72 Telecaster Custom Electric: $750-$850

Les Paul - This classic guitar was designed by Gibson for some of the stars of the era. The prominent feature of a Les Paul guitar is its set neck, which means there are no bolts. The body is a single cutaway and rounded. It is equipped with 2 humbucker pickups as well as a elevated scratch-plate. If you want to play twisted sound then this great guitar will provide you with a varied range. Some of the legends who use the Les Pauls include Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Carlos Santana. Some of the celebrated Les Paul models include:

* Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar: $3000-$3500 * 1959 Les Paul Standard: $5550-$6000 * Les Paul Vintage Mahogany: $700-$850 * Les Paul Classic: $1800-$1900

Gibson - This is one of the greatest brands in guitar and all their models are classics and cannot be compared to others. Gibson guitar company was actually incorporated in 1902 by Orville Gibson and has been singly responsible for giving us some of the most innovative acoustic and electric guitars. A couple of the famous models include the ES-150 electric and the Flying V etc. Some of the well known shredders who have played a Gibson or are still using it include Jimmy Page and Frank Zappa to name a couple. Some of the popular Gibson models include:

* Gibson Flying V Electric: $500-$600 * SG 61 Classic Electric Guitar: $1500-$1600 * Gibson Faded SG Special Guitar: $550-$600 * Gibson Explorer Pro: $1100-$1200

These are the best brands of electric guitars. The other aspects that will help you to pick up a guitar include fretboard, the pick-ups, and the body. Full-bodied electrics are normally preferred as they can produce some of the best audio that you will ever get to hear. - 18780

Reasons Why Children Should Learn To Play Piano

By Michael Mickey Charles

The importance of the arts for children, particularly piano playing, has fallen by the wayside with the latest generation of parents. These new parents have something to learn from the older generation that insisted their children learn music, particularly piano from strict, goal-setting piano teachers. The lessons children learn from piano instruction extend far beyond the music, piano keys and notes learned. These are but a few of the characteristics children can cultivate as they learn the art of piano playing:

Dedication. Learning how to play the piano displays a direct correlation between effective piano practicing and level and sense of accomplishment and achievement. Their commitment to this art is easy to see and feel. The children will see quite easily that the more effort they put in, the more they will get out of the experience. Piano playing teaches a child an appreciation in learning, a skill which grows and is nurtured with effort, thereby bypassing feelings of monotony that other activities may bring.

Clarity of Feelings. Playing the piano can be a thought-provoking, emotional experience for children " the perfect outlet for self-expression. Kids can convey their innermost thoughts and feelings safely through music. Playing the piano is healing and provides a healthy way for children to show self-expression especially in light of all the difficulties they face in todays society.

Fortitude. The piano is a complex instrument so it takes time to master its intricacies. For kids, it is quite enjoyable to learn easy songs, but they learn quickly that practice is essential for performing any song they want to learn properly. Patience with learning lessons from instructors is a valuable lesson they learn as well as learning the piano itself in addition to outside influences and requests from friends and family.

Individuality. As children grow, they will indefinitely become more and more aware of their own individuality. Having to learn to play piano can be one more thing that sets them apart from other children. However, the one thing that kids realize when they reach high school is that being different is good, but being different and talented is even better.

Accountability. One of the ways that children show responsibility is by taking care of their instrument and providing routine maintenance to ensure its long term use. Caring for a piano becomes a familiar routine for a child and they soon recognize when extra maintenance or TLC is required. This responsibility for their piano extends into other areas of their life as well. - 18780
